Collaborations

I am a co-investigator with Dr. Jana Sawynok, Pharmacology, Dalhousie University. We are investigating the effects of adenosine on acute and chronic pain (Poon et al., 1997; Allen et al., 1998; Plumier et al., 1998; Esser, M.J., Chase, T.D., Allen, G.V. and Sawynok, J, 2001; Heughan, C.E., Allen G.V., Chase T. and Sawynok J., 2002).

In collaboration with Dr. John Downie, Pharmacology, Dalhousie University, we have investigated brain stem control of the micturition reflex in the rat (Downie et al., 1997; Matsuura et al.,1998, 2000; Handa et al., 1999).

Recently, I have formed collaborations with Dr. David Cechetto, University of Western Ontario on stroke and inflammation of nervous tissue and Drs. Tarek Saleh and Andrew Tasker, Atlantic veterinary College, UPEI. These collaborations have resulted in publications on autonomic responses to chronic vagus nerve stimulation (Saleh et al., 1999) and the effects of excitatory amino acids on learning and memory (Doucette et al., 2000).
