The
Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology extends over three
floors of the Sir Charles Tupper Medical Building, a
fifteen story tower complex housing excellent facilities
for research and teaching in the basic medical sciences.
The Department, which is responsible for teaching a variety
of anatomical specialties to medical, dental, health
professional and science students, is one of five basic
science departments in the Faculty of Medicine. Members
of the Department provide graduate training leading to
both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Currently, members of the Department conduct research in a wide variety of topics,
including Functional Morphology, Cell and Molecular Biology,
Genetics, Developmental Biology and Neurobiology. Neuroscience
research is a particular area of strength for both the
Department and the Faculty of Medicine. Several faculty
members pursue research related to the biology of human
disorders, with the goal of elucidating basic mechanisms
that could lead to effective therapeutic interventions. |
